In addition to reducing electromagnetic radiation by taking measures at the source of the interference, the shielding effect of appropriately designed enclosures is often used to meet EMC protection goals.
Spectrum of services
We offer shielding effectiveness measurements on small and large enclosures or cabinets up to large rooms, e.g., containers with EMC shielding for IT servers, control rooms, or similar.
In addition, we also have the possibility of determining the shielding effectiveness of planar materials, e.g.,
- Shielding foils and films
- Fabrics with a shielding effect
- Materials such as plastics, glass, wood, which are coated or interwoven with ferrites or conductive structures
Technical possibilities
We can perform shielding effectiveness measurements continuously over the entire frequency range from 10 kHz to 20 GHz (continuous spectrum). An extension up to 40 GHz is possible for discrete frequencies.
Several shielding rooms lined with RF absorbers are available for measuring shielding effectiveness from enclosures to transportable shielded rooms (containers/shelters). For immobile rooms we also offer on-site measurements.
For the determination of the shielding effectiveness of planar material samples, we can offer two methods:
1. Measurement in a shielding enclosure specially developed by us with an opening into which both solid (plates) and flexible (foils, fabrics, etc.) material samples can be mounted.
2. Measurement in a so-called “specimen holder” according to the ASTM D4935 standard (frequency range according to standard possible from 30 MHz to 10 GHz).
Normative basics
We perform the measurement of shielding effectiveness according to the following standards:
- IEC 61587-3
- IEC 61000-5-7
- ASTM D4935
- VG 95373-15
- IEEE Std 299 TM and IEEE Std 299.1 TM
Other standards or customer-specific requirements are available on request.
