Product Safety – Testing and Certification

Electrical and electronic devices as well as systems must be developed, designed, and manufactured in such a way that safe operation is guaranteed.

Product safety tests focus on the prevention of risks when using a product:

  • Protection against electric shock
  • Protection against mechanical hazards
  • Protection against the spread of fire
  • Protection against fire risks in the event of component failure
  • Protection against power supply network overloads
  • Protection against injuries and damage to health

In almost all markets around the world, there are safety standards and regulations that must be fulfilled.

The European Union sets essential protection goals through directives and regulations, for example:

  • Directive 2001/95/EC – General Product Safety (GPSD)
  • Directive 2014/35/EU – Low Voltage Directive (LVD)
  • Directive 2006/42/EC – Machinery Directive
  • Directive 2014/53/EU – Radio Equipment Directive
  • Regulation (EU) 2017/745 – Medical Device Regulation

These protection goals are specified in the “Harmonized Standards,” published in the official journal of the EU. Examples of these are:

The product safety tests we carry out give you as a manufacturer the assurance that your product complies with the current normative and legal safety requirements as well as the recognized rules of technology.

Based on our test reports of the product safety tests, you can issue your CE declaration of conformity.

As an accredited laboratory for product safety tests, we support you during the development process. This enables you to detect failures at an early stage and thus reduce your development costs.

We are also happy to offer you international product certifications, for example according to the IECEE CB procedure. This enables you to obtain further national product safety certifications quickly and cost-effectively in countries that participate in the IECEE procedure. The standardized CB test reports and CB certifications are widely accepted internationally and reduce the need for expensive retesting.

You can find more information on international product certification here.
